Mission Statement

Understandiing the need for youth input, the voters of San Francisco approved the creation of the Youth Commission. The Youth Commission is a group of 17 young people between the ages of 12 and 23 who advise the Mayor and Board of Supervisors on children and youth issues. The Youth Commission is a diverse group of youth representing many perspectives. The Commission is an important way for youth to meaningfully participate in decisions in city government. Not only do the Commissioners develop leadership skills and encourage other young people to get involved but they also voice the concerns and needs of our young people. The Youth Commission has three primary objectives:

Develop the skills of young people 
 Impact policies to ensure that they support the healthy development of young people 
 Promote the accomplishments of young people and advocate for young people in decision making positions
