Minutes of September 11, 2000 Meeting of the San Francisco Veterans Affairs Commission

1. CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order at 1810 hours.

2. ROLL CALL: Renie Champagne, Charles Coolidge, Leonard Grube,

Wallace Levin, Elizabeth Meinick, CJ O’Mara, Glenn Raswyck, Edwin Wilkerson

and a quorum was present. Wayne Snodgrass, Asst City Attorney and Cheryl Cook, VSO were also present.

3. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE: All.

4. APPROVAL OF AGENDA: The agenda was approved unanimously with a hand vote.

5. APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF AUG 7 2000: The minutes were approved unanimously with a hand vote.

6. PUBLIC COMMENT: Cheryl Cook made some brief remarks on the planning for next year’s Resource Fair.

7. REPORTS A. The Secretary had no new information on the reappointments pending, and the matter was continued in the interest of other pressing items.

      B. President Raswyck received an update report from the Civil Grand Jury on "Neglect of Reporting Requirements. This update stated that to date, only 18 of 230 agencies have responded. --The major item was an annual report to the Mayor’s Office and Board of Supervisors on the Commission’s activity during 1999. It was proposed that a pro forma report be drafted for presentation and approval at the October meeting. (The Grand Jury in a footnote observed that the VAC "is not identified in Mayor’s annual proposed budget; no associated department is identified in proposed budget either.", This is one issue that the commission addressed

in our March resolution.) In addition to the Annual Report, it was decided to put on the October agenda a vote for a format response to Grand Jury’s

concerns.

      C. Legislative Committee. The loss of Commissioner Maceo Mays has created a quandry for the commission, and after some discussion it

was decided to put this important issue to future meetings. A card to be sent

Commissioner Mays was approved, and an address update obtained.

      D. In the absence of Comm. Lineberger, the matter of staffing at Fort Miley was continued.

8. NEW BUSINESS. Other than the above items to be on the agenda, there was no new business.

9. ANNOUNCEMENTS. Commissioners Renie Champagne and Wallace Levin are Parade Director and Parade Chairman respectively for the Mayor’s 2000 Veterans’ Day Parade Committee Those intending to participate should promptly contact Renie Champagne at 209 Rutland St., SF 94124, or by telephone:(415) 467-8218 or 467-6426. The deadline for completed entries

is October 29.

10. ADJOURMENT: The meeting was adjourned at 1920. The next meeting will be on Monday, October 2, 2000.
