Mwangi Mukami is a seasoned motivational speaker, writer, social activist, community organizer, and humanitarian worker. Professionally, he works as a Supportive Housing Manager for the National, and Co-Chair of the MLIFE Foundation, a California non-profit organization he instituted to improve the capacity of young people in disenfranchised communities by providing them with tools to help reduce poverty, bridge inequality and advance peace.Â
Originally from Kenya, Mwangi immigrated to the United States in 2009 after an illustrious public service career that spanned over a decade, including serving as the Honorary Chairman of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Africa Foundation. The Foundation was a human rights advocacy agency that integrated the virtues of dialogue and non-violence as core instruments necessary to achieve legislative policy and socio-economic improvement in Africa by engaging governments through community-driven advocacy movements that incorporated the Kingian philosophy of non-violence. Among other posts, Mwangi has served as the Goodwill Peace Ambassador to Kenya of the Gandhi USA Foundation, Special Advisor on Africa to Joe Beasley, Chairman of the African Ascension and Southern Regional Director of the National Rainbow/PUSH Coalition under the leadership of Reverend Jesse Jackson, and Shelter supervisor for two of the largest homeless shelters in San Francisco.
He is the recipient of the State of Georgia Senate Recognition Award for his peace efforts in Kenya and across Africa. His other meritorious achievements include: the Gandhi Peace Award, the Youth Order of Merit for Advancement of Humanitarian Service, and the Morris Brown Medal of Peace. His humanitarian work has been featured in the New York Times, the Atlanta-Journal, Reuters, and Global Atlanta among other various periodicals, journals and media outlets. He has appeared as a special guest of Victor Oladokun in Turning Point International, which aired across 170 countries.Â
