Public Invited to Mayoral Inauguration Ceremony
Inauguration of Edwin M. Lee as Mayor of San Francisco on Sunday, January 8, 2012 at City Hall
1/4/12—Mayor Edwin M. Lee today announced plans for the Mayoral Inauguration Ceremony on Sunday, January 8, 2012 in City Hall.
“This inauguration will be a reflection of the people of San Francisco and celebrate the deeply committed communities that make our City world class,” said Mayor Lee.
Former Mayor Willie L. Brown, Jr. will open the program as the Master of Ceremonies, and U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein will administer the Mayoral Oath of Office to Mayor Lee.
Selections of dance and musical performances from World Arts West’s San Francisco Ethnic Dance Festival including traditional dances of Chinese, Mexican, Filipino, Hawaiian, Indian, Indonesian and Peruvian heritage will begin at 10 a.m. Musical selections during the Inauguration Ceremony will be performed by the San Francisco Symphony, San Francisco Boys Chorus, San Francisco Girls Chorus and Tammy Nelson of Steve Silver’s Beach Blanket Babylon.
Following the Inauguration Ceremony, musical performances in the Rotunda will include the Ruth Asawa School of the Arts, the San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus, the San Francisco Lesbian/Gay Freedom Band, the San Francisco Unified School District & the Archdiocese of San Francisco Choral Collaboration Project Honor Choir and the SFJAZZ High School All-Stars Jazz Orchestra.
City Hall doors open at 10 a.m. The ceremony will begin at 11 a.m. The event is open to the public.
