Mayor Lee’s Statement on Passing of John Buchanan
Mayor Edwin M. Lee today issued the following statement on the passing of Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco Director John Edward Buchanan, Jr.:
“I am deeply saddened by the passing of John Buchanan. John has been the director of our City’s Fine Arts Museums since 2006, and his creative leadership set the standard for fine arts in San Francisco.
Credited with successful major international exhibitions at the de Young Museum and the Legion of Honor, John has led our museums to be some of the finest in the world, inspiring residents, artists, visitors, trustees, staff and donors with his vision and direction.
Our thoughts and prayers are with his friends and family as we remember John this day.”
