Mayor Lee's Statement on Ramadan
8/29/11 - Mayor Edwin M. Lee today issued the following statement on the month long Islamic celebration of Ramadan:
“I send my warmest wishes to the Muslim families in our City, and all those around the world who have been celebrating Ramadan over the past month. Every year, this festive time is celebrated by Muslims through deep reflection and sacrifice.
As we celebrate Ramadan, we join together in also celebrating diversity and multiculturalism, core values for those of us who live and work in the San Francisco Bay Area. Here in San Francisco, the Muslim community has been an integral part of the history of this great City. Generations of Muslims have served our City, making contributions to San Francisco’s history, economic vitality and culture.
The City and County of San Francisco is proud to recognize and support its Muslim community in the hopes that all have had a blessed month. Eid Mubarak.”
