Mayor Lee's Statement on New York Same-Sex Marriage Vote

Mayor Edwin M. Lee today issued the following statement after the historic vote on same-sex marriage in the New York State Senate:

“The State of New York reaffirmed our country’s commitment to equality and human rights when they legalized same-sex marriages today. I applaud the leadership of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the work of the New York State legislature in taking the steps necessary to extend marriage equality to now the largest state where gay and lesbian couples can wed and enjoy the same legal rights as all families do. The action in New York today demonstrates that it is more important now more than ever, for California to act and make marriage equality a priority. We will continue the fight to ensure that the most important civil rights issues of our generation is realized. San Francisco remains deeply committed to the same-sex marriage fight and equality for everyone.”
