Mayor Lee Raises 49ers Flag At City Hall
Reminds Fans to Welcome New York Giants Fans & Take Public Transit
1/20/12— Mayor Edwin M. Lee today joined San Francisco 49ers President/Chief Executive Officer Jed York and the 49ers Management Team to raise the 49ers Flag at City Hall and urged the City to wear Red and Gold this weekend in support of the San Francisco 49ers bid to win the National Football League’s NFC Championship title against the New York Giants this Sunday at Candlestick Park.
“We couldn’t be more proud of our San Francisco 49ers and this Sunday’s NFC Championship Game is going to be an exciting, safe and fun experience for everyone,” said Mayor Lee. “The entire country will be watching this Sunday’s game and we are going to show them that 49ers fans are the best football fans in the world.”
The NFC Championship Game between the San Francisco 49ers and New York Giants at Candlestick Park Stadium kicks off on Sunday, January 22 at 3:30 p.m. PST.
Motorists should expect very heavy traffic and delays on the westbound Bay Bridge and in both directions of U.S. 101 leading to Candlestick Park for at least three hours before the start of the game. Traffic will also be congested on the eastbound Bay Bridge and in both directions of US 101 for at least three hours after the end of the game. I-280 through Daly City is a good alternate route for Peninsula drivers not attending the game. BART is the best alternative to Bay Bridge congestion. Fans attending the games are encouraged to take public transportation. For more information, go to sfmta.com/football or use the 49ers regional transit map. Additional traffic and transit information for this special event is also available at 511.org or by calling 511.
The 49ers encourage fans to arrive early in order to avoid pre-game congestion. The main parking lot will open at 11:30 a.m. To encourage fans to arrive early, the 49ers will reduce prices at some concession stands and give away prizes. Additional information on 49ers game day plans can be found at 49ers.com.
