Mayor Lee Nominates Doreen Woo Ho to The Port Commission
04/04/11— Mayor Edwin M. Lee today nominated Doreen Woo Ho, a community advocate and a seasoned banking executive with more than 35 years of experience in the financial sector, to the Port Commission.
“The San Francisco Port plays an important role in our City’s economic health. Now, more than ever, our policy decisions must be made using sound business practices. The Port will greatly benefit from Doreen’s experience in banking and investments as it redevelops our Port’s infrastructure and properties for future tenant use, while protecting the Bay and honoring our historic maritime past,” said Mayor Lee. “I’m proud to nominate her to the Port Commission with her operations experience and dedication to the community and I am grateful for her willingness to serve our residents and City.”
Doreen Woo Ho currently is a business consultant specializing in banking and investment. Ho has been involved in a number of San Francisco community organizations including serving on the Board of Directors of the San Francisco Opera since 1993, and has previously served on the boards of the Hamlin School, the World Affairs Council, Fort Mason Center and the San Francisco Zoo. She is a founding board member of the Asian & Pacific Islander American Scholarship Fund (APIASF), which administers the Gates Millennium Scholarship funds for Asian Americans. She is also Vice Chair of C100, an organization of Chinese American leaders dedicated to improving US-China relations.
Ho is the former President and CEO of United Commercial Bank, a leading commercial and community bank with assets of more than $12 billion, serving primarily the Asian American community in the United States and in Greater China. Ho has also spent ten years with Wells Fargo where she was the President of the Consumer Credit Group and built one of the fastest growing and profitable asset groups within Wells Fargo from 1998 to 2007, from an initial portfolio of $11 billion to over $103 billion. During her tenure with Wells Fargo, Ho was the highest ranking Asian American banker in North America among the top five banks. She has been recognized by the San Francisco Business Times as one of the Bay Area’s 100 Most Influential Women, an honor she received every year from 2003 to 2009. Ho started her banking career with Citibank and spent 25 years in international banking operations and corporate credit management.
Before starting a career in banking, Doreen was a correspondent for Time magazine and CBS Radio News based in Cambodia. Ho holds a Master’s degree from Columbia University in East Asian Studies and a Bachelor’s degree from Smith College in Chinese History.
