Mayor Lee Nominates Cristina Rubke to SFMTA Board of Directors
5/1/12– Mayor Edwin M. Lee today announced the nomination of Cristina Rubke to the Board of Supervisors to serve on the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) Board of Directors. Under the Charter, the Board of Supervisors has the authority to review and confirm the Mayor’s nominees to the SFMTA Board.
“As a regular transit rider and advocate for people with disabilities, Cristina Rubke will bring valuable perspective and experience to the SFMTA Board,” said Mayor Lee. “She is passionate about a transit-oriented City that is accessible to everyone. Her service on the SFMTA Board will have a lasting impact on our City’s transit system to ensure it is safe, reliable, affordable and accessible for all users.”
Cristina Rubke is of counsel to Shartsis Friese LLP within the Litigation Department. Her principal area of practice is business litigation. She has also worked on open source licensing at a software company in Mountain View and at the Electronic Frontier Foundation on civil rights issues.
Rubke is actively involved with diversity initiatives within the legal profession. She serves on the California State Bar’s Counsel on Access and Fairness, which acts as the State Bar’s “diversity think tank” and advises the Board of Governors on advancing State Bar diversity strategies and goals. She is also the Co-Chair of the Bar Association of San Francisco’s Committee on Disability Rights, and is a board member of Disability Rights Advocates, a non-profit law firm dedicated to securing the civil rights of people with disabilities. Rubke also served on the San Francisco Better Market Street Project Community Advisory Committee.
Rubke is an avid sailor who serves on the America’s Cup Organizing Committee and the Commodore for the Bay Area Association of Disabled Sailors.
Rubke graduated from the University of California at Berkeley in with a Bachelor’s degree in English and received her law degree from Santa Clara University.
