Mayor Lee’s Statement on the Second Anniversary of the Affordable Care Act
Mayor Edwin M. Lee today issued the following statement on the second anniversary of the Affordable Care Act:
“Today, we celebrate the passage of the Affordable Care Act, a law that has already improved the lives of millions of Americans and provided families with the security they need.
I applaud Leader Pelosi for her efforts in advancing universal health care in San Francisco and throughout the nation. San Francisco has provided low-cost health care to uninsured City residents since a first-in-the-nation model was created by former Mayor Newsom in 2006.
At the national level, the Affordable Care Act has helped insure 2.5 million young adults, saved Medicare beneficiaries $2.1 billion on prescription drugs and insured 50,000 Americans who were previously denied coverage because of pre-existing conditions.
San Francisco is proud to celebrate this landmark legislation and remains committed to building a healthier future for all in our City.”
