Mayor Lee’s Statement on the 21st Anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act
Mayor Edwin M. Lee today issued the following statement on the 21st anniversary of the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act:
“Today, we recognize the 21st anniversary of the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act, a collaborative effort that brought the world’s first comprehensive declaration of equality for people with disabilities.
As we celebrate the anniversary of this historic legislation and how far we have come in the last 21 years, we join together to recommit to our continued progress. In San Francisco, we are implementing the Americans with Disabilities Act Transition Plan which creates a path to improving accessibility for everyone. Whether we are providing safe paths of travel with increased curb ramp construction and improved signals on our City’s busiest corners or we are building a new playground, library or police station, we do so while ensuring that every San Franciscan will enjoy and use our City facilities.
San Francisco is proud to celebrate the commemoration of this landmark legislation and remains committed to building a brighter future for all in our City.”
