Mayor Edwin M. Lee and Oakland Mayor Jean Quan Make Friendly Mayoral Wager on San Francisco-Oakland NFL Exhibition Game
Mayors Agree to Wager for the Best Treats of San Francisco & Oakland on 49ers & Raiders Preseason Game
08/19/11–Mayor Edwin M. Lee and Oakland Mayor Jean Quan today agreed to a friendly wager on the NFL Exhibition game between the San Francisco 49ers and the Oakland Raiders on Saturday at Candlestick Park.
Mayors Lee and Quan agreed that the office of the winning City’s mayor will receive a package of the losing City’s best treats and foodstuffs. If the 49ers win, Mayor Quan will send Oakland wine, Vice chocolates and Blue Bottle coffee. If the Raiders win, Mayor Lee will send Dungeness crab from Fisherman’s Wharf, an assortment of locally grown produce, Ghirardelli chocolate and Philz coffee.
“San Francisco is so proud of its 49ers football team and ready for the football season to begin. Our 49ers fans are quickly filling up seats at Candlestick Park and our local bars will be brimming with excitement as we cheer on our hometown team and new 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh,” said Mayor Lee. “With this friendly wager, Mayor Quan and I wanted to have a little fun to show support for our hometown teams. I’m looking forward to an exciting 49ers game with the Raiders, and I look forward to enjoying Oakland’s best treats.”
“Oakland is proud of our Oakland Raiders tradition of indomitable spirit, which will be a tough match for the team across the Bay,” said Mayor Quan. “Oakland also boasts world-class gourmet offerings, which I’m happy to bet with my friend Mayor Lee…like award-winning Oakland wines, hand-crafted Vice Chocolates and fresh-roasted organic coffee from Blue Bottle. Win or lose, we invite everyone to celebrate (or lick their wounds) on the sunny side of the Bay with 40 bands and 50,000 friends at the 11th annual Art & Soul Festival in Downtown Oakland this weekend!”
