Mayor Edwin Lee’s Statement On Black History Month

Mayor Edwin M. Lee today issued the following statement for February 2011, Black History Month:

“Black History Month is an important time to reflect on the great progress we have made as a nation in overcoming prejudice and shattering racial barriers – and how much more must be done together. The San Francisco Bay Area has always been at the heart of our nation’s struggle for equality and civil rights, and Black History Month celebrates the spirit and the achievements of so many African-American heroes and leaders who led the way. But this is not just a time for reflection on the past. Black History Month is also a time to recommit ourselves to continuing the fight for social and economic justice – for jobs, dignity and a brighter future for all our people.”
