Kenneth Stein

Ken Stein has been the Program Administrator for the Mayor's Office onDisability since September 2002. For the ten years prior to that, Kenworked at DREDF (the Disability Rights Education and Defense Fund),where he was the Manager of a national U.S. Department of Justice ADAInformation Hotline .  An early staff member of Berkeley's Center forIndependent Living, Ken has spent over thirty years in the field ofdisability access, independent living and disability rights.  His “504”picket sign has been on display in the Smithsonian Institution’sNational Museum of American History Exhibit, “The Disability RightsMovement,” adjacent to the Greensboro Mississippi Lunch Counter.

In 2000, Ken's oral history was published in the UC Berkeley'sDisabled Persons Independent Living Movement Project publication,"Builders and Sustainers of the Independent Living Movement inBerkeley."

In recent years, he has served as a guest panelist and consultant ona number of disability rights history and disability awareness panels.
