MINUTES - AUGUST 2, 1999, Meeting of the Commission, Room 104

1. CALL TO ORDER: The Meeting was called to order at 1809

2. ROLL CALL: Veronika Cauley, Charles Coolidge, George Gibbs, Leonard Grube, Wallace Levin, Jim Lineberger, Maceo May, CJ O’Mara, Glenn Raswyck, Edwin Wilkerson; and a quorum was present. Attorney Wayne Snodgrass was also present.

3. APPROVAL OF AGENDA: The agenda was approved unanimously with a hand vote.

4. APPROVAL OF MINUTES FROM THE JUNE 8th MEETING: The minutes were approved unanimously with a hand vote.

5. PUBLIC COMMENT: None

6. REPORTS:

A. Secretary - Reported that the 1998 Yearly report would be sent to
the President for signing and mailing.
B. Health and Welfare Report - C. May reported that the Federal matching funds for the State Homeless funds were in question and how it would affect McKinney and HUD funds, C. Cauley expressed concern over the cancellation of food vouchers for HIV positive patients at the VA, C. Cauley also questioned the quality of food at the cafeteria.
C. Legislative Committee - No report on pending legislation. Commission reaffirmed the 1992 Anti-Discrimination Resolution with a unanimous hand vote. The resolution read: "The City and County of San Francisco Veterans’ Affairs Commission affirms the right of all Americans to serve in the Armed Forces of the United States of America and that service should be free of bigotry, prejudice, and discrimination of all kinds."
D. Web Site Report - Commission agreed that C. O’Mara would give a report of new information from the Web Site.

7. UNFINISHED BUSINESS: Question on research on other Veterans Affairs Commissions.

8. NEW BUSINESS: C. Levin presented a new proposal for a plaque for the War Memorial Court by the Military Order of the Purple Heart, Woodrow Wilson Chapter No 15, San Francisco.

9. ANNIOUNCEMENTS: President Wilkerson announced that the old Fort Mason Officers Club through a club member could reserve the club for certain events. C. Coolidge was named Post Commander of the Alexander Hamilton Post 448, of the American Legion and that they are hosting a spaghetti dinner on August 28th in Room 202 at 6:00PM.
