Minutes
December 1, 1999
- CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order at 1815 hrs.
- ROLL CALL: Renie Champagne, Charles Coolidge, Bob De La Cruz, George Gibbs,
Wallace Levin, Maceo May, CJ O’Mara, Glenn Raswyck, Edwin Wilkerson, and a
quorum was present. Attorney Wayne Snodgrass and William Stephens were also
present.
- PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE: All
- APPROVAL OF AGENDA: The agenda was approved unanimously with a hand vote.
- APPROVAL OF MINUTES FROM THE 11/1/99 MEETING: The minutes were approved
unanimously with a hand vote.
- PUBLIC COMMENT: William Stephens from the Iowa Project for the Historic
Ships Memorial at Pacific Square gave an update on the status of the battleship
Iowa and its planned docking in San Francisco. Many hurdles both logistic
and political have been passed and all systems are go. He thanked the commission
for its support and the commission reaffirmed our continued backing of this
project.
- REPORTS:
A. Secretary - Reminder to those who need reappointment.
B. Health & Welfare Committee - C. May announced that HUD had come through
with needed funds for Veterans’ programs. He stressed that more needed to
be done.
C. C. DeLaCruz reported that the VA is undergoing a 30% cut in funding and
some of the reorganization and distribution has already started. C. DeLaCruz
also discussed the plans for the northern area cemetery and the change in
how the cemeteries will be managed.
D. C. CJ O’Mara reported on the Web-Site and asked for material and participation
via e-Mail.
E. Officers’ Nominating Committee -
- There were no additional nominations for officers.
- Glenn Raswyck, Commission President
- Charles Coolidge, Commission Vice-President
- Leonard Grube, Secretary
- Were unanimously voted in as officers with a hand vote.
8. UNFINISHED BUSINESS: - Attorney Snodgrass informed the Commission that there
are no special identification issued by San Francisco Commissioners. - The San
Francisco Veterans’ Day Parade was deemed a success by all those who attended.
9. NEW BUSINESS: - Discussion which will be on the agenda on how the Commission
can work more closely with County Service Officer. - Discussion of the VEC Resource
Fair.
10. ANNOUNCEMENTS: Next meeting is January 3, 2000. John Kennedy will replace
Wayne Snodgrass as Commission Attorney while Wayne takes care of the new addition
to his family. - Special thanks to C. Wilkerson for providing food and refreshments.
11. ADJOURNMENT: 1930 hrs.
