The Western SoMa Citizens Planning Task Force shall promote neighborhood qualities and scale that maintain and enhance, rather than destroy, today's living, historic and sustainable neighborhood character of social, cultural and economic diversity, while integrating appropriate land use, transportation and design opportunities into equitable, evolving and complete neighborhoods. Throughout the life of this Task Force, the membership shall respect one another, be responsive to the constituencies they represent and foster a citizen-based democratic decision-making process.

Highlights

On Thursday, September 18, 2008, the Planning Commission voted unanimously to begin the next phase of the planning process by initiating environmental review with the draft Western SoMa Community Plan as the community's preferred alternative.  To view the hearing click here, and select agenda item 13 to play.



Public Comments on the Draft Community Plan are complied and responded to on a periodic basis.  Please review the current posting of the Public Comments and Responses on the Draft Community Plan (PDF-74KB).

An updated version of the WSoMa Community Plan is now completed with maps, pictures, and graphics.  It is ready for review and comments for the workshop (see below) prior to the Task Force presentation to the Planning Commission on August 14.  Use the "Comment Button" to send your thoughts/perceptions of the Plan.

workshop (see flyer) to discuss the fundamental assumptions included in the Western SoMa Community Plan was scheduled for Saturday, August 2, 2008 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., in Folsom/Dore Apartments Community Room at 1346 Folsom Street (between 9th and 10th Streets).  The public was invite to attend the workshop with refreshment provided.

Third Town Hall - April 23, 2008
This third and final Town Hall meeting provided a chance to anyone to discuss the plan with members of the Task Force before they voted on their final recommendations.  The Planning Commission and the Board of Supervisors will then consider the adoption of the Western SoMa Community Plan  (PDF-76MB).  The Plan promotes a future vision of a complete neighborhood and embodies ideas generated through three years of community conversations! The meeting was held in the multipurpose room of Bessie Carmichael School, 375 Seventh Street at 7:00 p.m. with good food....great people!  See our poster (PDF) for more details.  Flip Chart Notes taken from the discussion of the Task Force sub-committees at this meeting was recorded and complied and ready for your viewing.


Second Town Hall - Our Neighborhood, Our Community, Our Plan
On October 24, 2007, the Western SoMa Task Force presented results for residents survey, business survey, and discussed steps to draft a plan for the neighborhood. This meeting, the second in the series, was held in the multipurpose room of Bessie Carmichael School, 375 Seventh Street at 7:00 PM.    See this event poster (PDF).  See discussion points gathered from the 2nd Town Hall in the Flip Chart Notes.

First Town Hall Report
Tremendous turnout at the June 27 Town Hall meeting.  This was the first in a series of community forums meant to gather input for the Western SoMa Community Plan.  Attendees filled out surveys and participated in focused discussions on transportation, business and land use, arts and entertainment and complete neighborhoods.  Issues and questions discussed is summarized in this First Town Hall Report (PDF).  The San Francisco Bay Guardian provided extensive coverage of the event in its July 4th edition.
