The Commission receives no funds from the City and County of San Francisco, or from any other source. We do not have a budget. We thus do not have any money and we do not disperse funds.
The Veterans' Affairs Commission is an advisory commission and is not a regulatory commission. Our mandate is to advise the Mayor and the Board of Supervisors on matters affecting veterans of the Armed Forces of the United States, on the problems, interests and needs of veterans who are residents of the City and County of San Francisco and on the coordination of economic development, health care, and social services programs as they relate to veterans who are residents of the City and County of San Francisco. Only our elected officials have the power and the funds to move these programs forward.
The City and County of San Francisco does provides direct service to veterans through the County Veterans Service Office. The office is located at 875 Stevenson Street, Suite 250, San Francisco, CA 94103. The office provides assistance to the men and women who served in the Armed Forces of America, in obtaining benefits from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, Department of Defense, California Department of Veteran Affairs and other programs.
