(June 15) Scroll down for Fall 2009 Information The Harvey Milk Recreational Arts Building, located in the southwestern area of Duboce Park, is the live center of many cultural pursuits in the city. Home to Recreation and Park Department's unique Photography Center, it also has a dance studio, outstanding music classes, and aerobics classes. The Harvey Milk Performing Arts Building also houses amazing citywide programs such as: The Young People's Teen Musical Theater Company the San Francisco Adult Free Civic Theater, and OmuluCapoeira. Rhythm and Dance: Explore dance choreography and learn how to interpret different musical styles throught motion. Ages 8-9 $340/person (code 13198) Photo Exploration and Mixed Media: Learn about photography and imaging techniques. Make your own pinhole camera, life-size poster, and combine different media to make exciting art projects. Capeoeria: Learn about this Afro-Brazilian marital art form that emphasizes music, acrobatics, games, exercise, and physical coordination. Afterschool Enrichment Program (ASEP) provides homework help to elementary school students, educational activities, such as Kidzlits (Literacy Based After School Curriculum), SPARK (Physical Education Curriculum), and other cultural art experiences Mondays to Fridays.
Ballroom Dancing teaches smooth Latin and swing dancing for senior citizens, but welcomes younger people too.
Beginning/Intermediate Tap Dance teaches the elements of tap dance developing into a tap dance routine.
Dancin' and Prancin' allows toddlers to explore creative movenment in a non-competitive, fun, and nurturing environment, while helping them develop coordination, motor skills, fitness, and social interaction.
Ethni-Jazz Dance is a fusion-style combining Ethnic, Jazz, and Ballet danced to Latin, Caribbean, and African Pop music for adults of all ages.
Groovin' & Movin' is an introduction to basic dance concepts using a variety of world music and props to encourage variation in movement choices for 3-5 year olds.
Hula Dance teaches beginning/intermediate level Hula.
Intro to Costuming and Theatre Props teaches basic construction skills, design elements, and the creative world of costuming for stage. Emphasis on mask making, hats, accessories and props for musical theatre.
Low-Impact Aerobics is a dance-oriented aerobics class using fun movement patterns that are easy to follow for beginner to intermediate levels.
Omulu Capoeira is the Afro-Brazilian martial art that combines gymnastics, acrobatics, and fitness. Renowned masters of Capoeira guide mental and physical uplifting for youth and adults.
San Francisco Civic Symphony is the oldest community orchestra of volunteers committed to providing amateur musicians in the community the opportunity to study and perform a diverse repetoire of classical music. We accept string musicians without open auditons.
San Francisco Dance Circle teaches steps, styles, and music from all over the world. Dancers of all levels will enjoy the fitness and fun in circles, sets, lines, trios, couples, and more.
