New Parking Meters on the Embarcadero
8 In May 2009 the Port of San Francisco is installing new parking meters for 1,000 spaces in its jurisdiction along the Embarcadero.
8 This is a soft launch of SFpark – a first step towards using new technology to make parking easier, reduce double-parking and improve the flow of traffic and Muni. SFpark will be implemented in other areas in fall 2009.
8 The Port’s new meters allow people to pay with both credit cards and coins.
8 Most spaces will have four-hour time limits and some will have twelve-hour limits (up from two-hour time limits).
8 By making parking easier to pay for and extending time limits, parking will be more convenient. This will mean fewer parking tickets and more freedom to enjoy the city.

8 In two of the four zones, rates are decreasing and in the other two they remain the same. Metering will still begin at 7am and operate 365 days a year.
8 Metering in the evening will make it easier to find a parking space, which will make it easier to visit stores and restaurants. After 7pm, drivers will pay no more than $2.00 for four hours of parking.
8 Drivers will be able to park along the Embarcadero during special events such as baseball games. During these events, the price of metered parking will be $4.00 per hour with the newly extended time limits.
