The Drug Elimination Team
Led by the Mayor's Office of Criminal Justice, San Francisco's criminal justice agencies have formed a partnership including the police department, the district attorney's office, the public defender's office, the sheriff's department, both adult and juvenile probation departments in conjunction with the Health Department have created "the Drug Elimination Team" (DET). This new multidisciplinary partnership focuses on the reduction of drug related crime activity through a coordinated approach.

Using Justice Assistance Grant funding made available from the U.S. Department of Justice, the DET assesses trends in drug-related crime throughout the City to develop and implement integrated strategies to suppress and prevent drug related crimes. The DET also directs offenders to treatment where appropriate. Currently, the San Francisco DET is concentrating efforts on the high rate of both use and sales of heroin and methamphetamine as well as related criminal activity in the Mission and Tenderloin neighborhoods.
