The February 5, 2008 election is a modified closed presidential primary. If you have registered with a particular political party you may vote only for candidates from that party. If you declined to state an affiliation with a political party at the time of registration (decline-to-state voters), you may request a ballot from either of the two parties that allow decline-to-state voters to vote their party’s ballot. The two political parties that will allow decline-to-state voters to vote their party’s ballot in this election are:
Decline-to-state voters who wish to receive a ballot from one of the parties listed above must request that ballot from a pollworker when signing the roster on Election Day. Voters requesting a vote-by-mail ballot can indicate their choice on the Vote-by-Mail Application. Decline-to-state voters who do not request a specific party ballot will be given a nonpartisan ballot containing only the measures to be voted on. To determine your party registration, look in the box containing your polling place address or in the bottom left corner on the back cover of your Voter Information Pamphlet & Sample Ballot that was mailed to you. The party with which you are registered is identified by one of the codes listed below:
You can also determine your party affiliation by calling the Department of Elections at (415) 554-4375. If you would like to change your party registration, you must complete and submit a new voter registration card by January 22, 2008. You can request that a voter registration card be mailed to you by calling 415-554-4375, or fill one out in person at the Department of Elections.
