A certified copy of a Public Marriage License is not available for 4-6 weeks and a Confidential Marriage License is not available for 10 days, AFTER the license is received from the person solemnizing the marriage. Public Marriage Record: Public marriage records are maintained by the County Recorder in the county where you purchased your marriage license. Certified copies of San Francisco public marriage licenses are issued by: Office of The Assessor-Recorder If your marriage ceremony was performed by one of our Deputy Marriage Commissioners in our office, the completed marriage license is returned to the County Recorder in the county where you purchased the marriage license on the following business day. Please check the specific County’s website for processing times and information. Confidential Marriage Record: The County Clerk's office handles certified copies of San Francisco Confidential marriage licenses. A non-refundable $14.00 record search fee will be charged. If the record is found, a certified copy of the record will be issued. Additional certified copies are $14.00 each. Processing time for orders by mail is approximately one week. Copies may be purchased in person or by mail. In Person: You are required to complete an “Application for Certified Copy of a Confidential Marriage Certificate (PDF),” present valid legal photo I.D. Processing time for orders in person is approximately 20 minutes. By Mail: You are required to complete an “Application for Certified Copy of a Confidential Marriage Certificate (PDF),” sign the Sworn Statement before a Notary Public, and have your signature acknowledged by the Notary (attach Certificate of Acknowledgement). Mail the application, acknowledgement, money order or CA personal check including name and address payable to SF County Clerk (no out of state checks), and self-addressed stamped envelope to our address below. Processing time for orders by mail is approximately 5 business days from receipt of application and payment. |
