City Projects

The City Projects unit promotes effective and accountable government by carrying out special projects of departmental or citywide significance. Request for projects typically come from City leadership such as the Mayor, Board of Supervisors, or City Department executives. City Projects reviews requests and implements those with the greatest potential benefit for the City.

City Projects professionals bring special expertise in project management to help craft solutions to complex City problems. Examples of these types of projects include:

Transit Effectiveness Project: This project examines Muni’s transit system to determine how well it works for riders today, and how it can increase ridership and lower costs.
Municipal Healthcare Assessment: This project analyzed the role played by Department of Public Health in the local health delivery market, benchmarked effectiveness against similar counties and best practices, analyzed supply and demand for healthcare among uninsured San Franciscans, and implemented strategies to maximize our healthcare revenue and minimize costs.

City Projects also conducts other research and analysis to help the City be more effective. Examples include:

Quantitative analysis for labor contract negotiations
Financial analysis of proposed ballot initiatives
Operational analysis to reduce backlogs, wait times and improve customer service
Caseload and workload analysis to support staffing and productivity decisions
