· introduce on-going health (exercise/sports & nutrition) programs and host "Fitness Day" events at schools
Discussion:
Dr. Nadine Burke stated that too many of her child/youth patients are suffering from obesity & high cholesterol problems, and strongly recommends promoting and stressing health-consciousness message by eliminating unhealthy foods (i.e. processed, deep-fried, sugary) from health-related events/meetings and from school campuses. Dr. Burke also mentioned she noticed another reason for unhealthy habits in children in BVHP is due to lack in both: 1) safe play areas; 2) sufficient anger-management for children dealing with environmental/domestic violence.
Dr. Hunnicutt comments on need for more educational programs in community promoting careers in medical/health-related fields. Dr. Hunnicutt suggested bringing in a well-know individual as keynote speaker.
